1. HSRC Internship Programme

What the Internship Is About

The HSRC Internship Programme aims to give unemployed graduates practical work experience, especially in research, administration, and innovation-focused fields.

Interns are mentored by experienced staff. Skills development includes both technical (discipline-specific) and transversal skills (communication, time management, work etiquette).

There is a strong employee wellness component, which includes psycho-social support such as trauma counselling, financial advice, legal support, etc.
Eligibility / Requirements

South African citizen or permanent resident (with a valid SA ID)

Graduates must be 35 years or younger at the time of appointment.

Qualification: Completed degree at NQF level 7–9:

NQF 7 = Bachelor’s, Advanced Diploma, B-Tech
-
NQF 8 = Honours, Postgraduate Diploma
-
NQF 9 = Master’s, M-Tech
-

Fields: Science, Engineering, Technology, Research & Innovation, Social Sciences, Humanities.

2. SITA ICT Internship (2025)
Organisation: State Information Technology Agency (SITA)
Duration: 12 months
Stipend: R 6,500 per month
Location: Various provinces (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Northern Cape, North West)

About the Programme

This is a government ICT internship programme aimed at early-career development.
-
It gives interns exposure in software development, end-user computing, business analysis, and information security.
-
After completion, interns may be considered for absorption into permanent or contract roles (“critical positions”) within SITA.
Eligibility / Requirements

Age: 18 to 35 years old
-
Must be a South African citizen and unemployed.

Qualification: Bachelor’s degree or 3-year National Diploma in ICT or a related field (NQF level 6)
-
No prior working experience is required.
-
Preference is given to applicants residing in the province where the internship is advertised.

3. Companies Tribunal ICT Internship (2025)
Organisation: Companies Tribunal (a statutory body under the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition)
Duration: 1 year (12 months)
Stipend: R 84,110.86 – R 89,273.52 per annum
Location: Pretoria, South Africa

An intern in this programme will:

Provide technical support to staff and users (helpdesk, IT support)

Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software systems

Monitor system performance and fix system faults Replace faulty hardware where possible

Provide training to team members on software use
-
Handle data backup tasks and ensure correct backup procedures
-
Secure networks by installing necessary applications and configuring network peripherals (like printers)
Eligibility / Requirements

Qualification: 3-year National Diploma in any of these:

End-User Computing

Server or Network Engineering
-
Information Technology or similar field
-

No prior work or internship experience required.

Age: 18 to 35 years. Must have basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)

Analytical, customer service, and problem-solving abilities; willingness to learn.

Background checks / verification: Candidates will undergo security / background screening.

Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA for recognition.

Preference will be given to candidates who contribute to diversity (race, gender, disability) as part of retrospectivity.
