This Is Not a Normal Lecturer Job – This Is a Senior Management Role You will run the entire occupational skills, learnerships, and short-skills programmes portfolio for one of Gauteng’s biggest and most successful TVET colleges (over 40 000 students across 7 campuses). Real day-to-day highlights:
- You decide which new learnerships the college offers in 2026/27 – Solar Installation, Cyber Security, Welding 4.0, Early Childhood Development Level 5, etc.
- You bring in millions of rands in SETA funding every year (merSETA, CETA, EWSETA, etc.).
- You negotiate directly with big companies (BMW Rosslyn, Ford Silverton, Eskom, Transnet) for workplace placement of hundreds of students.
- You manage a team of project coordinators, facilitators, and admin staff.
- You sit on the College Academic Board and influence the entire direction of skills training in northern Gauteng.
- You get to travel to campuses, industry partners, and SETA offices – this is not a desk-only job.
Key Responsibilities (You Will Own These)
- Hunt down new funding opportunities and write winning SETA discretionary grant applications worth R10m–R50m per year
- Design brand-new occupational programmes that actually match what employers in Tshwane need tomorrow
- Run full learnership projects from start to finish: recruit students, appoint facilitators, buy tools, place students in workplaces, track stipends, certify everyone
- Build and maintain relationships with every major SETA, local municipalities, and big employers in Pretoria North, Rosslyn, Soshanguve, and Hammanskraal
- Make sure every programme is 100% quality compliant (assessment, moderation, SAQA registration, DHET reporting)
- Manage a multi-million rand budget and report monthly to the Principal and Council
- Supervise and grow a team of 8–15 people (performance contracts, training, discipline)
- Set up industry-standard workshops and simulation labs on campus
- Represent the college at national TVET skills forums and DHET/SETA events
Requirements – They Are Non-Negotiable
- Grade 12 + a recognised 3-year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, TVET Management, Project Management, Human Resource Development or related field (NQF 7 minimum)
- Minimum 3 years supervisory/managerial experience in education, skills development, learnerships, or teaching & learning
- Proven track record of working with SETAs, managing grants, or running occupational programmes
- Valid driver’s licence and own car (you will travel between campuses and companies)
- Advanced computer literacy (MS Office + project management software)
- Deep knowledge of: – TVET sector legislation (CET Act, NCV, NATED, QCTO) – SETA landscape and discretionary grant processes – Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) basics
- Strong report writing and presentation skills (you will present to Council and SETAs)
Advantage (Will Push You Straight to Interview)
- Honours or Master’s degree in Education or Skills Development
- Experience as a SETA project manager or TVET college skills development coordinator
- Existing relationships with merSETA, CETA, EWSETA, or TETA
- SACE registration or assessor/moderator qualifications
