SALARY: R163 680 per annum (Level 03)
- 37% in lieu of benefits (total package ≈ R224 245 per annum) Contract Duration: 3 years (with 12-month probation period)
CENTRE: George Campus, South Cape TVET College (Western Cape)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 10 (Std 8) or higher
- Relevant Handyman / Tradesman Aid certificates (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.)
- Minimum 2 years proven handyman/general maintenance experience
- 1 year supervisory experience will be a strong advantage
- Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB minimum)
- Computer literacy (basic MS Office/email)
- Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages (English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa)
- Physically fit and willing to work overtime, weekends and public holidays when required
- Preference will be given to candidates residing in the George local area
KEY SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Plumbing (unblock drains, repair taps, sanitary ware)
- Basic electrical (replace light bulbs, plugs, minor wiring)
- Carpentry (doors, locks, desks, fencing repairs)
- Painting, tiling and general building repairs
- Grounds & garden maintenance (mowing, pruning, irrigation)
- Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) practices
- Stock control and basic procurement
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and lead the general assistants/cleaning & grounds team
- Perform daily inspections of all campus buildings, grounds and equipment
- Carry out minor repairs: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, locks, windows, roofing, gutters
- Maintain lawns, gardens, flower beds and sports fields
- Clean and unblock drains, replace broken window panes and light fittings
- Remove refuse, control pests and apply chemicals safely
- Lock/unlock buildings & gates, activate/deactivate alarm systems
- Supervise fleet usage and report defects
- Purchase and control maintenance materials, tools and stock
- Assist with budget monitoring for maintenance and repairs
- Conduct regular safety inspections (fire extinguishers, playground equipment, etc.)
- Report theft, vandalism and safety hazards immediately
- Ensure campus is always neat, clean and presentable
